EBIC Supports Agile Framework for Updating CMC 7

EBIC has formally expressed its support in principle for a practical and agile framework for updating Component Material Category 7 (CMC 7). In a letter submitted to DG GROW, EBIC highlights the importance of a streamlined process to facilitate timely market access for microbial plant biostimulants while ensuring regulatory compliance.

This statement follows discussions at the CEG-FP meeting in November 2024 (agenda item 4.4), where procedural options for CMC 7 were deliberated. EBIC acknowledges the proposal put forward by the Coordination Group of Notified Bodies (NOBO) as a promising step toward establishing a predictable and efficient assessment framework for microbial plant biostimulants.

As microbial plant biostimulants play an increasing role in sustainable agriculture, EBIC underscores the need for a regulatory framework that fosters innovation while maintaining legal and procedural integrity. By supporting the continued exploration of NOBO’s proposal, EBIC aims to contribute to a system that balances market needs with regulatory certainty.

While recognising that additional legal and procedural considerations must be addressed, EBIC remains committed to active engagement in refining the approach to CMC 7.
