EBIC Supports the EU Biotech Act II: Unlocking Biomanufacturing in Europe for the biostimulant sector

The European Biostimulants Industry Council (EBIC), as one of the 44 co-signatories of the joint industry statement on the EU Biotech Act II, brought together by EuropaBio (the European Association for Bioindustries), strongly supports the development of a dedicated European framework for biomanufacturing.
Biomanufacturing already sits at the heart of Europe’s economy. The broader bioeconomy and biopharma sectors together contribute over €3 trillion annually, underlining the strategic importance of biological innovation for Europe’s competitiveness and resilience.
Within this landscape, biostimulants represent a fast-growing and high-impact segment. They are essential tools for enabling more sustainable agriculture, improving nutrient efficiency, enhancing plant resilience to climate stress, and supporting soil health.
Despite this economic strength and scientific leadership, Europe continues to face a critical gap: the ability to scale innovation into industrial production. For the biostimulants sector, this means that promising biobased technologies often struggle to reach farmers quickly and efficiently.
The EU Biotech Act II offers a timely opportunity to close this gap. By creating a more coordinated and enabling framework for biomanufacturing, the Act can help ensure that Europe not only innovates, but also captures the economic value of its €3 trillion bioeconomy, supporting growth, jobs, and sustainable solutions across agriculture and beyond.
